RPI Allow Rush and Recruitment!

Suspending fraternity recruiting efforts is the wrong solution to the problem and may yield unintended consequences. There is no apparent strategy beyond punishment directed at the RPI Greek system.

The issues Jackson is trying to address are not limited to fraternities/sororities. They can, and do, happen across all student environments. RPI should not label all of us based on the actions of a few. Address the whole student body without handicapping Greek life. I am suspending giving to RPI until this attack on Greek Life stops. And so our my two sons whom also graduated from RPI, are fraternity brothers, and return to campus.

Rushing fall semester gave my son a sense of community, camaraderie and brothers who I’m sure will be life long friends. It is not a solution, and makes a pretty sad statement about how RPI administration addresses student life issues.

Joining a fraternity at RPI has been a wonderful experience for our son! He joined as a freshman and has made great friends. He lives at the frat and he even got his summer internship and co-op through his fraternity connections after freshman year! This is what has kept him happy at RPI. The fraternities and sororities are an integral and valuable part of student life there. It would be a shame to lose them.

As with most prohibitions, it’s the solution to a problem by those that are not creative or bluntly lazy to work on solutions. I can only imagine that a move to prohibit rushing and recruitment for the Greek Life system is led by people who have a conflict, are bias (be it for whatever reason), and/or do not make the effort to educate themselves to understand the many benefits that Greek Life has historically brought and can bring to RPI’s undergraduate student’s formation and future. It is also unacceptable that the RPI’s Administration would take this short cut instead of putting the resources to work with the Greek Life constituent, as they do with all others in the student body, and strive to improve the low morale and behavior that may have overcome certain players in RPI's Greek Life. The short cut, and easy way out is , as usual, to try stomp out the problem, rather than resolve and improve. Respectfully,

i Agree it is not fair to punish all fraternities and sororities for the actions of a few. I think RPI is heading in the wrong direction when it comes to student life on so many levels.

My son was doubting his choice of RPI until he got involved with Greek life in his freshman year. The ban seems underhanded and NOT supported by the students and Alumni who $$ the school. Please rethink the ban!

Administrators on the Task Force should better represent the alumni and student body. Suspending rush and recruitment is a decision which is not supported by the alumni or students currently enjoying the benefits of Greek Life. Furthermore, the aforementioned decision lacks a factual base and/or common sense. I respectfully request that you revisit and reverse your decision.

My son was looking forward to rushing this fall. I hope this decision is reversed

This is an overreach by administration, not the first this year and I am feeling less inclined to recommend RPI to future applicants because of this and other incidents. I will not be donating - on top of tuition - until administration stops infringing on student run activities: union, greek, free speech and otherwise. College is for the development of thoughts and ideas, making connections and experience running organizations - all part of the learning process. The administration is trying to effectively control too many aspects of a growing up and development process, which can be messy. Deal with sexual assault and alcohol directly, don't use Greek life infractions as a cover for ulterior motives. Be more forthcoming about future plans, maybe you can garner support with some transparency.

Allow upperclassman to rush informally. Allow freshman to rush second semester or sophomore year. Talk to parents and students RPI!

Greek Life was a key part to my RPI experience. Please give the Greek community an opportunity to be at the table with the "Task Force" and to keep an open mind on potential solutions. Banning Fall Rush will making Greek reform harder, by putting all chapters in a bind. New members will be part of the solution, so why prevent that?

My son had a very positive experience freshman year because of the support system he found at his fraternity. I honestly believe that the reason he decided to return to RPI for his sophomore year was definitely due to the friendships and the bonds that were created by his fraternity brotherhood.

Banning fraternities and sororities, for all their faults, does not correct any of the problems the administration is putting on a public show of addressing. This is purely for publicity; by not working more closely with the Greek community, it shows an ignorance about what Greek life can and should be.

Greek life has influenced my life in many ways, and taking away that experience from an incoming student is wrong. You damn libtards need to let these people do what they want.

Stop letting the actions of few ruin it for the many that are responsible in the Greek system.

Please reconsider these decisions that have been made without proper consideration of impact. Fraternity life at RPI did more to mold and shape me in a positive way for the next 55 years than any other factor during my 4 years there. You really need to look at this more carefully with alumni input.
