Look at San Antonio - many natatoriums, and all the lanes so full that they keep building more. I can't imagine this wouldn't be a boon for our area. And without it, our swimmers are at a decided disadvantage in number of competitions they can attend (especially long course) without having to travel. It's definitely good for the swimmers, but I imagine it would be good for the area, businesses, etc., most people in general.

Given the size of RRISD and the number of competitive swimmers in it's District, it's inconceivable to think an aquatics center is not already in place. This needs to happen! As an RRISD mother of three, two being swimmers, I definitively support the building of the RRISD Aquatics Center.

Besides Conroe, San Antonio has several competition pools as do the Dallas area suburbs. And don't forget that Corpus Christi has a very nice pool that serves high school and club teams. What is wrong with our local school districts and or cities that they refuse to respond to this need?

Some points from the perspective of a growing local water polo club and community:
* Our understanding is that our friends at Longhorn have recently nearly doubled rents to use the UT Swim Center
* In 2015 the number of high schools in our region that fielded water polo teams increased by approximately 25%. That number will rise again in 2016.
* Our area is sending the highest ever number of athletes to this summer's Junior Olympics Water Polo Championships in CA.
* For the first time ever a high school team from our region (Round Rock) beat or tied a Houston program at the 2015 high school championships.
Growth in water polo isn't coming to our area, it is already here. And while CenTex will always advocate and be grateful for additional opportunities to train local athletes, it is our Round Rock-based families who want more pool space for the community. We agree with and support them.
This petition is just the beginning and we ask for your help in making Round Rock truly the "Sports Capital of Texas."
