I have children in this school and this scares me. No one stops for pedestrians at roundabouts!

Please consider NOT putting a round a bout at this corner. It's already hard for me to cross the street to get to school without cars blowing through the stop sign. If a roundabout is put in, these cars won't have to stop at ALL, and to me, that's pretty dangerous. I have almost been hit several times by cars who speed through the stop sign without looking for pedestrians, only to be told by the police to make sure I'm looking both ways before I cross. This is a dangerous intersection to start with, and roundabout will only make it worse. Richmond also has VERY little parking to start with, and we can't lose any more or we will have no where to park to pick up and drop off our children.

Although roundabouts can be effective in the right location, I have seen many drivers fail to yield and rush to beat approaching traffic from the left. I doubt these drivers are anticipating a crossing guard stopping traffic to help children cross the street as they gun it to make it into the circle. Richmond also cannot stand to lose any additional parking spaces near the school. The front entrance of the school seems to be one of the safest spots to let children in and out of vehicles since they don't have to cross any streets. The drop off lane on Kernan St. is already congested in the morning. I can"t imagine forcing dozens of other cars to use that same area.

The safety of our children should come first, above all else. I am not just signing this petition as just a parent whose child attends Richmond, but as a members of our community. I am at the school every day picking up my children and am at the school for extended periods as a Girl Scout leader. I have already seen more than my share of speeding, close calls and ran stop signs. Putting in a round about will not slow cars down, rather it will create the same scenario as the College Ave. round about. Drivers treat that as a mini race track trying to see how quickly they can get into the round about. The crossing guard has had to make children wait for traffic to slow down to allow children to cross and even then there have been a few times that the kids barely have their feet in the safe zone before cars are revving to get on their way. I am not against round abouts, I am against one this close to an elementary school. Let alone there is already an issue of parking, to lose 10 parking spaces is ridiculous!!

Roundabout at Richmond school is a bad idea. As is, school does not have enough parking spots for parents to use. Roundabouts are hard to cross. Drivers are too busy watching for pulling in traffic. They are not prepared to stop. Many times I have witnessed pedestrians waiting to cross the College Ave bridge roundabout, and cars not stopping.
