We, the undersigned, seriously object to the opening of Roslyn Schools on Friday, August 31st (the Friday before Labor Day weekend).  

We ask that it be changed to Tuesday, September 4th (the day after Labor Day).  

Our reasons are that:

1- Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the most popular family vacation weekends and many families use the week before to spend quality time together. By starting school before Labor Day, families will either need to cut their vacations short or their children will end up missing their first day of school. 

2- Children that attend the first day of school will have to start & stop, attending the first day and then not having the second day until 3 days later, which makes the transition especially difficult for those in the younger grades. 

We strongly believe that it would be much more beneficial to begin school after Labor Day out of respect for the families of Roslyn and continuity for our children.
