I have created this petition to request a special meeting of the SOMerville Board of Councilman to discuss the rodent infestation in East SOmerville and the current and future plans to resolve this huge issue.
Seeing the momentum grow is a reminder that I am not the only one exhausted by these conditions. It feels heavy to keep fighting this battle, but knowing you are behind me helps keep the pressure on the council.

There is a nest of at least 20-30 rats on Alston St, and I am constantly seeing rats when walking around East Somerville in the evening. This is the worst it's been since I moved here a few years ago, and I've heard reports of dogs becoming ill and dying from rat-borne diseases this spring and summer.

I’ve lived here for 13 years and this is still an issue. We pay monthly for a pest control company to come and re bait regularly but it seems like we are the only ones on our street doing anything to resolve this awful problem.

I have had 2 dead rats on my property this season and one dead one in the street. In the 20+ years that I have lived here I had only seen one. The problem is obviously increasing exponentially.

In NYC rats carry slices of pizza into the subway. In Somerville, I once saw rats carry away the pizza delivery driver. I, and other neighbors, fought off the vermin horde and helped a -mostly- intact delivery driver back to his car. Something must be done!
