Recently the value of having the public able to hear what is going on out there was proven. The capture of the Loves Park robbery suspect was assisted by a citizen aware of the description. We citizens can help, and taking away an ally seems like a terrible decision in a time like this.

This would be a very bad idea. this should be open at all times. encrypt swat and other bands that need to be protected for tactical reasons. standard police bands should be open so we know whats going on.

Please do not take Rockford scanner away. This is the only way we have to keep track of the crime in our neighborhoods. A lot of us depend on the Web sight for our news . The crime in this town is so over the top. Not the town I was born and raised in anymore. Sad. Sad. Sad. For the first time in my life I'm ashamed to tell people where I'm from and we're I live. Truth.....

I think its a bad idea. How will news people know what's going on? Keeping the bad guys in the dark is probably still easy by having othet dedicated frequencies. The public still has a right to be informed.

Now, more than ever, Rockford citizens deserve to know what is going on so we can one, keep away from dangerous situations and two, act quickly in assisting law force with relevant information. Encrypting scanner information leaves us in the dark and without a feeling of community support. Keep scanner information in the clear.

During storms the police scanner comes in handy to know how bad the storm is. We don't get tornado sirens by us. If we hear trees down and powerlines down around our area we know it's bad enough to go in the basement. It's also good for traffic purposes when accidents block off main roads.

Rockford scanner helps identify crimes in Rockford. The media doesn't report all crimes. As a resident in Rockford, I want to know whats going on. Because I feel the police don't want citizens to know how bad it is. They can continue to say crime is down, when, by using scanner, we know it's not!
