Rockaway Community Town Hall Meeting

To our Elected Officials - With the start of the summer beach season here, we have already seen an increase in the harrassment, crimes, traffic, and lack of public transportation service on the Rockaway penninsula. On Thursday, June 9th 2011, Brooklyn/Queens day was the final straw. With tempatures reaching the high 90's and the heat index over 100 degrees the beach was swarmed with people coming into our community and not respecting city laws. The harrasment and violence assosiated with this has become a cause of concern for local Rockaway and Broad Channel residents. It is like the city was not prepared for the number people heading into the neighborhood and police and public transportation presence was scarce at best. A near riot almost broke on 116th street, there was a shooting on the A train in Howard Beach and laws continue to be broken. Not to mention that the condition that the beach is left in at the end of the day is horrendus. It is completely unsanitary and unhealthy for the amount of garbage that is left on the beach. These issues need to be addressed immediately by our ELECTED OFFICIALS. We are herby petitioning for a Rockaway Community town hall meeting with our local ELECTED officials to discuss and address these issues. Sincerly, Rockaway & Broad Channel Unite.
