Senior project is a problem, not a solution

The Senior Project has done nothing but cause added stress and anxiety to high school seniors. I cannot speak for every school in RI, but at East Providence High School, We are given only half the school year to complete everything as described in this handbook [http://eastprovidencehighschool.com/pdf/2007-2008%20EPHS%20SP%20Handbook.fnl.pdf]. We are put in a classroom with a teacher who does nearly nothing but give us deadlines, and treaten us with failing the senior project class and not being able to graduate if we do not meet these exact deadlines. We are given only 2 weeks to finish our projects if they are not done on time, even with a compelling reason. There are only four people out of over twenty students in mrs. medina\'s senior project class that are passing, so does this mean there is a problem with the students or the project -The senior project will cause students who get good grades to not graduate and leave potential doctors, scientists, etc. without a highschool diploma. -The senior project has raised the stress levels of students to unhealthy levels. -Because of the increased stress levels of the students, alot of good students are dropping out and others are transfering to other schools. -Senior Project will increase the failure rate. More work doesn\'t necessarily mean smarter students, high schoolers are often not doing well because of their stress levels, and senior project is now the biggest stressor of all. We as seniors have jobs to work and school work in other classes to do, and that was already hard enough. So please, either get rid of this graduation requirement, or cut the students some slack on it.
