I agree with this completely, I get frustrated when people throw the word around so lightly in conversation. It's important to realize the hate and misunderstanding behind the "R" word. It is important to understand that many people take what they were born with for granted. There are people who are not born with the same abilities as others and have to fight each day to express these abilities. Instead of throwing hurtful words in their faces or simply not understanding their struggles, we should be admiring them. It takes the strongest people to go through life feeling different and not understanding why. Stopping the use of the "R" word is a step towards stopping ignorance towards those who have developmental disabilities. Using the "R" word for slang is detrimental in the long run because it makes it seem as if it is okay to throw around such a hurtful word. Good luck with this petition, I think it's an extremely important one.
