Georgia, Tbilisi 17th May, 2013 Preannounced peaceful manifestation in support of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia failed to place take today in Tbilisi, Georgia and turned in a disastrous violation of human rights. Roughly at 13:00 PM the peaceful demonstrators were raided by the masses of the counter demonstration that was led by radical church activists. Although prior to the demonstration police and Ministry of the Internal Affairs assured the peaceful demonstrators that they would protect their rights and ensure their safety, police has failed to live up to its promises. Police was neither equipped nor represented in such numbers that would be enough to stop the opposing violent force, which soon resulted in the peaceful demonstrators being chased away by the uncontrollable masses of the counter demonstration, who by the way, very easily broke through the police, and chased after the escapees. Not only did the police fail to protect peaceful demonstrators from being raided, they failed to guarantee their safe escape. The opposing force chased after the buses, mini buses and cars in an attempt to throw the demonstrators off of them and beat them up. Although there is large number of photographic and video material that identifies the obvious violation of human rights and law, no arrests have been made in regards to the incident. Ministry claims it did its best to protect the interest and rights of the both sides. Liberal Youth Network of the South Caucasus condemns the act of violence and violation of human rights and asks the Ministry of the Internal Affairs to conduct immediate investigation of the matter, arrest the people that clearly violated the law and investigate the people who were in charge of ensuring public safety and failed to do so. Below you can find numerous photos and videos showing the details of aforementioned event and violence
