The administration of Cherry Creek School District has made the ridiculous policy that food can only be sold (through bake sales or other means) 7th and 8th period during the school day. This is a huge blow to clubs that rely on revenue from bake sales and food sales as it effectively outlaws running food sales during times that will bring in the most money for the clubs. For years clubs have relied on money that comes in from bake sales during the lunch hours because it is the time when students are the most willing to purchase food items. The policy is an attempt to force students into buying government cafeteria food instead of supporting valid on campus causes. The ridiculous policy creates the following situations: -Amnesty International is not able to run a bake sale during the lunch periods to send boys in Kenya they support to school. -Four Quarters for Kids is not able to raise money through the sale of food or drink to support kids in Ethiopia to go to school. -Big Sisters has to find alternative means of funding after being forced into less profitable bake sales 7th and 8th periods. -Speech and Debate is not allowed to do their hot chocolate and snacks bar weekly that brought in a lot of support for the team. -Marching Band has to sell doughnuts in the afternoon instead of when students want them: in the morning. There are tons more situations like this, and all are for good causes. Why does the administration insist on hampering the efforts to support clubs and other activities that raise money for valid causes The policy is ridiculous and should be changed immediately. Please sign the petition so we can continue supporting on campus clubs and causes. Thanks!
