RideShare Driver Rip Off
Either you are a driver for a ride share company who is getting ripped off or a passenger who is enjoying dirt cheap convenient rides. Either ways, this article will be very interesting for the both. I will explain in detail how drivers are getting ripped badly and passengers most probably don't realize. It's not far from slavery, if I must exaggerate.
Rideshare is a very convenient way for passengers to find
rides without the hassle of picking up a phone and waiting unimaginable time
for a taxi to arrive, and get to their destinations in a friendly environment.
The apps locates the closest driver to the passenger and sends out a request to
the driver. Once the driver accepts the ride, he/she is directed to the pickup
location, and all this time the passenger is informed of the location of the
driver, how close he/she is getting to their pick up location.
After picking up the passenger they are dropped off at their destination
without discussing the fare. The whole experience is very friendly, and very
enjoyable for both parties, except for the driver once the ride is ended and
shows what the driver made. Let me give you an example, a driver picks up a
passenger from John Wayne Airport and drops off
at LAX airport, the traffic is terrible and it is 36 miles, takes an
hour to get there. Usually taxi's fare around $100 to $130. But with ride
share, the passenger pays only $57, yay great for the passenger. But the driver
only gets about $45 after the 20% company's commission, and with that $45 count
in taxes, gas, mileage, time and wear and tear on the car. Roughly about $30 or
less will be the driver's earning.
Do we really want such a cheap service that is sucking the life of hard working drivers. I believe the rates needs to be better. The experience of using an app..and the ride is awesome, and I am sure people will still use it even if the rates are higher because it's still more convenient compared to taxis/cabs.
