The traffic light at Bridge and Main Street is due for an upgrade. The morning commute for residents has traffic backed up to the Round Church at times, and takes fifteen minutes to get from the bakery to the railroad tracks. Not all of us have the luxury of leaving earlier, due to children getting on the bus, daycare, pre work commitments or other requirements.
The delayed traffic causes excessive idling which is a waste of fuel and environmental hazard.
Commuters are less likely to stop at local businesses to avoid the aggravation of dealing with the cluster of cars.
There are children walking to school who are also at risk of being struck by anxious and tired drivers rushing to get through the traffic.
Please sign this petition to urge the State of Vermont Transportation Authority address this issue. A simple delayed green from the bridge side during peak travel times, or retiming the light all together would ease this strain on residents.
