Rhode Islanders Who Oppose Bill S 0463, H 5690, H 5493, S 0489, S 0482 & HB 5225
We OPPOSE HB 5493as introduced:Liquid nicotine products should be sold in child-resistant packaging. For the sake of consistency for those who sell within multiple states, we support federal intervention on this issue. If the State is to proscribe child-resistant packaging requirements, the bill should reference federal standards to promote uniformity. We support prohibiting the use of vapor products in K-12 schools.
We OPPOSE S 0482. This bill would require us to post signs in our stores falsely informing our customers that the use of vapor products causes heart disease, lung disease, cancer, heart disease, stroke, and respiratory illness, none of which is proven. The Department of Health has no evidence-based approach to use to assist vapor product users in “quitting” vapor product use.
We OPPOSE HB 5225. Raising the age to purchase vapor products from 18 to 21 is not good policy. If 18, 19, and 20 year old adults can serve in combat, they should be permitted to use an alternative to smoking.
