Final supporters
There is currently a Rheumatology Day Unit, but this does not provide cover 24 hours a day, which is so desperately needed. There is currently no cover on weekends and bank holidays.
Rheumatology patients requires continuous specialist care and attention, sometimes urgently.
Rheumatology covers all kinds of illnesses, including Systemic Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Wegeners Granulomatosis, Vasculitis and other auto immune diseases.
Quite often, auto immune disease patients can be treated as day cases and fight their condition between home and the day clinic. However, when things get worse, as they often do, the sufferer needs in patient care in a specialist ward. At the moment, there isn't one.
Autoimmune disease potentially affects all organs in the body, so when a patient's condition requires urgent attention, the skills and knowledge of multiple specialists from different disciplines may be required all at the same time. This can only be effectively coordinated from an in-patient facility. Thank you

Reaching this level of support feels like a quiet turning point in a long and heavy road. It is draining to keep fighting for the care patients deserve but seeing this momentum keeps me moving forward.

Really hope this happens. Having to deal with a flare up on a bank holiday with nowhere to turn is my biggest nightmare.
About time. Autoimmune diseases are serious and deserve proper care round the clock.
NEEDED. FAST.
My wife has RA and we have been left waiting far too long in general wards that just dont understand her condition. Specialists are needed 24/7.
Cardiff needs to step up. Patients are suffering because the current setup is just not good enough for emergencies on weekends.

It is absolutely ridiculous that we dont have this in cardiff. Living with lupus is hard enough without having to worry about where to go when things take a turn for the worse.
