I think Grant is right to follow his heart and follow in his grandmother Blanche's love for cooking and cooking gumbo and other dishes. I would have liked to have seen Grant in a career in the Army as a chef then retire from the Army and open up a restaurant, but Grant seems to have a burning desire to cook and cook he can do. Even today in Mobile I met a hairdresser who recalls her parents going to Blanche's restuarant. Aunt Blanche was loved for her cooking at Meme Restaurant in Bon Secours and loved for her cooking in her own restaurant in Magnolia Springs. I support Maritza and Grant in their desire to open a restuarant in memory and honor of his grandmother, as I said to the Planning and Zoning Commission 110%. If you want to get involve and show your support some more, then, please, write to the Baldwin County Commission before their 15 Dec meeting, or come to the County Commission Meeting in Bay Minette on 15 Dec 2020 to speak in favor of approving the rezoning from RA to RR. Without the rezoning to RR, a restuarant cannot be built. As the owner of that field, I have wanted to clear that corner for 5 years because it was difficult and dangerous to turn at that intersection. The next thing is to request a traffic light at that intersection. A family just recently built a beautiful home facing CR 49 just North of CR 26 at 11606 Magnolia Springs Highway. I wondered how they get out of their driveway with all the traffic. Awful location for a dream-home. They need a traffic light there and a means to walk across the street to Maritza and Grant's fine cooking a couple times a week. Glad to have them. I hope to see all the supporters who can come by 9 am to sign up to speak on 15 Dec in support of these two nice young people.

This may be a little long, so I will apologize in advance. In 1971, when I was 13, my family moved from Foley to Magnolia Springs. As much as I loved growing up in Foley, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. Waterskiing, floundering, squirrel hunting, all right here. A little later, I got involved in the fire department and, at 17 years old, became chief. Yep, I remember being called out of class at Foley High School to go fight a fire. The reason I served as chief at such a young age was because there was a significant age gap between our junior firefighters and the older guys. Basically, I was the oldest of the young group. It was for a relatively short time, but I’m glad I had the experience. We used to gas up the firetrucks at the pumps right out in front of Moore’s Store (now Jesse’s restaurant). Around the year 2002, amid concerns about uncontrolled growth and development in the immediate area and along the river, certain basic zoning regulations were passed and, a few years later, the community incorporated and became the Town of Magnolia Springs. I take this stroll down memory lane to illustrate this: in my 50 years living on Oak Street, Cougill Avenue, Woodland Drive and Vernant Park (since 1998), I have seen Magnolia Springs go through some changes, mostly for the better. Our fire department is much better-trained, well-equipped, and doesn’t have to rely on a 17 year old kid as it’s chief. And our community is as beautiful and desirable as ever. I believe the rezoning of the Weeks property for its proposed purpose is an appropriate use for that property and is another change in the right direction. Quite honestly, when I noticed the property being cleared, I feared a different type of development, as I wasn’t sure who owned it. I have known the Weeks family for a very long time. My family dined-in and picked up takeout from Blanche’s restaurant on countless occasions. I believe they will develop it the right way, and do the right thing, now and in the
An absolute must for this establishment to exist.
