Rezone Downtown Pella to Allow "Cocktail Lounges" Like The Cellar Peanut Pub Along the Square

The City of Pella will be considering a request to rezone downtown Pella to allow "cocktail lounges". This would allow the opportunity for upscale brewpubs and craft brew houses to be located downtown. Businesses like The Cellar Peanut Pub have expressed interest in coming to Pella but this hurdle is one that needs to be crossed.
When you consider the impact businesses like The Cellar Peanut Pub (Oskaloosa) and Peace Tree Brewing (Knoxville) have had in their communities, as well as the growth of the craft brewing industry in Iowa, it's easy to understand why there has been a groundswell of support.
Adding the opportunity for these businesses also helps Pella attract people to the community, both as visitors and residents. Both Peace Tree Brewing and Cellar Peanut Pub are seen as "destination hotspots" for craft brew lovers, many coming from hours away to soak up their local Iowa charm. Having these locations also helps attract young adults considering careers at many of Pella's local large employers as entertainment options are important in their decision making.
While Pella residents should contact their City Council Members and Zone & Planning Committee Members, we're asking everyone in support of this measure to sign this petition to show that both the community, and potential visitors are behind it. We hope to provide this information to the City Council for their review as they prepare their vote.

This would be a very nice addition to PELLA I for 1 would bring my wife of 30 plus years over to PELLA for the first time always wanted to go there just never found the time but definitely would if The PEANUT PUB was there.
I grew up being taught that drinking establishments were where morally corrupt people go. Nothing could be further from the truth. Normal people enjoy a place to meet friends and just hang out for a while without having the burden of hosting at home. Just ONE reason.
This should have been done a long time ago! I work at a hotel here in Pella and I always get asked where the closest brewing company or entertainment pub is and get weird looks when I say Knoxville or Pella. Definitely a GOOD investment for Pella!!
I believe this would allow high-end establishments to operate downtown, serving us local citizens and drawing tourists as well. Alcohol permitting is quite rigorous and we could maintain standards of presentation and operation.
As a relatively new Pella resident, I am constantly frustrated that I have to leave the town I live in to enjoy these things! This needs to change if Pella wants to be/stay relevant. Please rezone and allow this Pub!

This establishment would drive significant economic development for the Pella downtown, and make Pella an ideal place to LIVE-WORK-PLAY. Especially among the young professionals that Pella continues to work to attract to key employers in the area.
