Please listen. then think carefully and reconsider. This "experiment" is very, very high risk and could well ruin our city.

I live in SW Minneapolis and I believe elements of this plan will harm the character of our neighborhoods without benefiting those in need of affordable housing.

The key issues and my concerns are summarized in this petition. There are already many shortcomings in our infrastructure and city services to move forward with this, or any plan, that doesn’t directly address these needs. I agree that our elected city officials have an obligation to more thoughtfully and fairly represent all residnts with a more sensible, comprehensive plan that can be appropriately funded.

This plan does not offer a pathway to home ownership for the low to moderate income working class.

Taking neighborhood input out of the planning process and decision making about the future direction of the city feels elitist and does not reflect the diversity of the city.
I have lived in the Uptown area since 1974 and have watched the area change dramatically. However, this past few years have brought even more dramatic changes with decreasing input or warning.
One prime example:
Were the bike lanes on 28th and 26th discussed in public? Was the public notified of them? Is there a real reason that they are needed when the Midtown Greenway is on 29th street already?
Seems that it happened the way it did because some people who are now in power believe that "the public" needs to be guided to behavior change.
That seems more than a bit paternalistic, and is highly distressing.

Increased density will only ruin the wonderful culture of this city. It will not bring affordability if current building is any indication. None of support staff at my pace of work can afford rent at any new building in the city! When I moved here 36 years ago from the Detroit area, I was amazed at the livability of the city. Don't ruin it by making traffic worse than it is, neighborhoods so dense you don't know anyone and feel alienated where you live, and ruin the wonderful culture of Minneapolis!

This plan would destroy our neighbor hoods as we know it now. Decreased
our property value, increase high density. Wrong direction!!!!!!

I agree with the petition 100%. It is not elitist, racist or short-sighted to maintain single-family ownership. More than one of the small homes my husband and I wanted to purchase this year were BOUGHT UP BY SPECULATORS TO BE TORN DOWN. This is not a plan but an experiment which will harm our city.

I'm troubled that the 2040 plan does not address the problem of affordable housing, something stated in the goals of the plan.

Planning is now centralized, except for what the larger planned buildings will provide for parking. That will be left up to the people building the larger buildings. What is there incentive to make sure that the neighborhood has adequate parking - NONE.

One of the things that makes Mpls. a great place to live is the charm of our beautiful neighborhoods, lakes and parks. There are ways to provide affordable and higher density housing, and maintain the charm and character of what we have. Next steps need to focus on how to do both, while also learning from other metropolitan areas that have dealt with these issues.

Density for dentiy's sake? What about infrastructure? Are we all going to ride bikes?
What about our lakes? The most valuable of our city's resources - are we going to wall them off for the benefit of the developers who can make more profit than in less "tony" areas? Theodore Wirth had a vision and created the true "City of Lakes" by making it public - now the palnning committee is pissing on his grave.
Does renting really offer the hope for the future? Isn't the "America Dream" all about home ownership? Do renters share the same pride in their homes and neighborhoods?
Pandering to developers is not "liberal" - Jason - who are your campaign donors?
