Rework the Minneapolis 2040 Plan

I am very concerned about what will happen in Minneapolis if the 2040 plan is not reconsidered and modified. More and deeper citizen input is needed. I live on Bryant, and am in a small, 3-story condo brownstone building. We have yards, flowers and trees. I am four blocks from Lake Harriet, and greatly appreciate that amenity. All the projected images for larger buildings are simply big, square, bulky towers, no yards or trees, nothing interesting about the architecture, or sense that they fit in with the neighborhood. It reminds me of Soviet-era apt buildings, soul-less, and life-less. They butt right up against the sidewalk, and look like they should be in downtown, not a diverse neighborhood. Be assured this is a neighborhood. My surrounding blocks have a school, single family, duplex, condos, apartment bldgs and small businesses. It works together quite well and is balanced. I feel very sad that the 2040 plan does not really address the issue of affordable housing at all. As a condo owner, I have a strong investment in this city, over many years. I am not a fly-by-night that will be moving anytime soon, but I fully understand the need for truly affordable housing stock. This current iteration of the plan has been drawn up as a one-size-fits-all template, and does not work well with the reality of what we, the residents of Minneapolis, actually need and want. I strongly urge delay, additional research, more citizen input, and a massive redo of this "plan" before all of what makes our wonderful city goes away. That would be incredibly sad for all of us.

Do not destroy our neighborhoods. Only the developers win

The entire neighborhood is comprised of residential single-family houses. Your draft plan would zone my parcel and my neighbors’ parcels for construction of up to 4 stories. That is not an appropriate scale of development for this residential neighborhood. The draft designation ignores the scale of development that city residents have followed for more than 100 years at this location. Please revise the designation in the final plan from Corridor 4 to a less-dense designation.

One size for aall does not work. Get it right or risk being voted out of office.

This plan discriminates against the elderly whose retirement is in the value of their now threatened single family home and who now face a very unaffordable senior care market. There are ways to revise zoning in order to open up small areas in many neighborhoods for small thoughtful multi family dwellings ( that might not interest big developers but which could still be done if the city had the will) without this big hammer approach that puts money in the pockets of big developers and big construction and has no real intention to improve diversity or help people who need housing .When will MPLS learn to quit tearing down beautiful old buildings?

With the construction of numerous apartment complexes in multiple areas the city, we do not need added heavy redevelopment single family homes replaced by multi-unit residences at this time or for the foreseeable future. I’ve seen this kind of explosive growth construction in at least one other major city I've lived in. I found in relatively short time periods, there were large numbers of vacancies, foreclosures, and negative impacts to surrounding housing markets. As far as I’ve seen, this plan does not take into account any year to year metrics that reflect market or neighborhood needs so that growth is planned for the future by looking at the present growth trends, average incomes and job creation rates. I applaud the overall effort but find the zone for 20 years out, today a bit of a ham handed approach to a challenge that really needs to have better controlled and nuanced approach.

Density is not for everyone. Minneapolis residents deserve a choice.

The 2040 Plan as written will destroy neighborhoods, add pollution to our lakes and streams, crowd our streets, and threaten the quality of life in Minneapolis. Slow down! Much careful planning is needed with a neighborhood focus and broad citizen input as well as careful attention to the environmental impact of proposed development.

This is too radical of a plan and no facts to suggest more units means more affordable housing.

I support this petition. The 2040 plan will destroy all the is the charm of Minneapolis and it varied neighborhood communities. 2040 is all about developers hidden behind current social pains. It does not address true affordable housing, strained parking or infrastructure. It is a band plan that when similar plans implemented elsewhere have been proven to be damaging to the city. I moved to Minneapolis for its charm and character. The 2040 plan will destroy what is Minneapolis and what had made Minneapolis one of the best places to live in various publications.

The 2040 plan needs to be dropped. Keep current neighborhood zoning in place. We thought large mcmansions were terrible.... even larger 4 plexes in the neighborhoods would be devastating.

I am in full agreement that we need to rework the plan with more community input. I agree that we need affordable housing but I don’t want to see this plan go through and support the developers and not the people who need the housing! I believe that we need to preserve our open and green spaces and the beautiful city that we have! I am sure there are ways to accomplish the goals that will support all the people involved!

I strongly oppose the Mpls2040 plan. While there are some positive elements, I feel it Manhattan-izes our city and that there are better paths for growth moving forward. Thank you for your time!
