Rework the Minneapolis 2040 Plan

This plan, the threat it creates to my neighborhood, and that means by which it was devised and promoted makes me angry. I have been a home-owning proud tax payer in MPLS for 19 years and this plan makes me feel that my investment and tax payments are not appreciated. We could have moved to a suburb and paid less but we chose not to. Largely because of the neighborhoods and live ability of this city.

Planning with such serious consequences deserves - demands - time, education, transparency, and many opportunities for civil discourse across the city. 2040 is lacking in most of these areas and should be delayed, reworked, and have leadership that is responsible and open to all citizens and neighborhoods of this city, where I have hoped to live out the remaining 10-25 years of my life. For the first time ever, I am seriously considering Saint Paul or (shudder) a suburb. I would gladly support goals of social justice, increased density, affordable housing, even gentrification with justice (read Robert Lupton’s “Charity Detox”) WITH THE RIGHT PLAN, but 2040 in its current draft is not that plan! While understanding the need for additional housing in Minneapolis , we need not to loose site of the current City dwellers needs and investments. The 2040 Plan is extreme, potentially negatively impacting the homes/lives of so many. PLEASE rework the 2040 Plan, and inform residents of the prosed plans in advance, so that dialogue may be engaged.

As a 35 year resident of SW Mpls I ask you to reconsider this plan, and allow time to hear from more residents.

As a long time resident of Minneapolis (Kenwood, Uptown and Kingfield), please reconsider this plan. While I do agree with many of the goals listed; I disagree with the policy and zoning changes that are being recommended. A longer feedback period and more interaction with Minneapolis residents would also be helpful.

I strongly oppose The Plan 2040. I am a resident of Minneapolis and a homeowner.

I adamantly OPPOSE the 2040 plan in its current draft for all the reasons very clearly stated in this petition. I also stand in firm agreement with the comments submitted herein by my fellow citizens. It is time the Mayor and City Council takes note and LISTENS to your CONSTITUENTS (VOTERS)! Protect the character of our neighborhoods, lakes & parks...including the Kenilworth corridor! This plan is grossly flawed throughout and it clearly must be reworked with input from our neighborhoods! Our neighborhoods should thrive, NOT the developers!! The timeline is ridiculous, especially considering very little notice was given to the public (many still have not heard what is happening!). Why do we get alerted by phone for snow emergencies but nothing came to our residences about this plan?!! Please go back to the drawing board with expert planners!

As a 25 year resident of the Fulton neighborhood, and a 6 year Uptown resident prior to that, I wholeheartedly support this petition; it articulately expresses my many concerns. In its current state, this is an unrealistic and bad “plan” on many levels that will not result in the desired goals. This sweeping one-size-fits-all approach is a developers dream, but it’s a nightmare for us residents and our cherished neighborhoods, and it should not be forced upon us. As taxpayers, why is this not something we are voting on?!? Extremely disappointed with the arrogance and over reach by the City Council thinking they know best…this demands more public engagement. We expect and deserve a more thoughtful vision, wider community collaboration/input, as well as improved timeliness and transparency throughout the overall process. The amount of opposition and outrage should not be a surprise. I sincerely hope you listen to your constituents and revise the 2040 plan!

Please slow this process down and allow for more input from residents

This plan is built on assumptions the same way supply side economics is, and it will fail the residents of Minneapolis just as badly.

you are asking high tax paying citizens who work hard and endlessly to give up the right to live in a home and neighborhood of their choice!!! This is totally un-American!! Some of us literally slave day and night to maintain a certain standard of neighborhood and housing that meets their comfort level! I do not see where you have the right to encroach on individual liberties of tax paying citizens to bulldoze your way into our backyards for the sake of unproven and totally theoretical goals.

I object to the radical 2040 plan!! As a ife ling Minneapolis resident, the last 22 year in Lynnhurst I am incredibly disappointed in the leaders of this city. The plan needs to be reworked with input from those who live and care for our neighborhoods. My neighbors and I are ready to rally and FIGHT this mess!!

Too expensive, will not provide low cost housing, unattractive, will lower property values, will definitely destroy the city's charm.

My suggestion: try sample neighborhoods before a city wide change
