Subject: Petition to Revoke U.S. Visas for Members of the Current Government of Nepal Involved in Use of Excessive Force

I am writing as a concerned U.S. citizen to express my deep alarm at the recent actions taken by the government of Nepal. The brutal crackdown on peaceful protests against the social media shutdown has left at least 19 citizens dead—including children and youths—and more than 400 wounded. This represents a grave violation of human rights and democratic freedoms.

In light of these events, I respectfully call upon the U.S. Embassy in Nepal to recommend the revocation of U.S. visas for:

  • Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli
  • Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak
  • Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Chhabilal Rijal
  • Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung
  • All current cabinet members of the government of Nepal
  • The immediate family members of these officials who may benefit from U.S. travel privileges

Allowing these individuals and their families to enjoy the benefits of U.S. visas while citizens of Nepal are subjected to violence, suppression, and killings undermines America’s values of democracy, human rights, and accountability.

Revoking their visas would be a powerful statement that the United States stands firmly against state violence, impunity, and the targeting of unarmed civilians. It would also demonstrate solidarity with the Nepali people in their demand for justice, freedom of expression, and the right to peaceful assembly.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent and important matter.

Sincerely
