We lived on Utah St. When this park first opened. It was a great place to take out son. It needs a lot of work to make it safe and pleasant for families now. Considering how much people pay to live in NP, I'd say they deserve a nice park.

We just moved into the area and have been surprised by the large presence of homeless, especially the park. We've already had a bike stolen and do feel intimated by some of the homeless that "hang around". I'd would support actions that work to clean up the park and reduce the number of homeless people in San Diego.

The park has become a hostile environment for anyone not interested in witnessing drug transactions and being verbally assaulted by the day-campers. What a sad and tragic commentary for " America's Finest City".

It is a shame that this park has become so scary for the average citizen. I wouldn't dream of taking my grand children here, even though it is closest to my house. Please work to fix this situation!

Yes please. I live a block from the park and when I leave in the morning for work (5:30am) ot is overrun with the homeless. When i get home (4:00pm) you can see children and families at play are slowly overrun by the homeless as the sun gets closer and closer to setting. Obviously the homeless do not cause ALL crime in NP, but their overwhelming presence does communicate a lack of law enforcement in the area and invites the other crime I have seen - including fights, garages getting tagged (on my block), trash spilling into the Rec. Center parking lot, and shopping carts parked in front of residence parking, thievery and more. I want to invest here, perhaps buy property or build as this is an exciting community, but if places where children play aren't cared for, I won't be able to support it with my residential or business adventures.

The revitalization going on across North Park, especially along the El Cajon Boulevard area, is wonderful. However, it addition to bringing in eateries, nightlife, and other shopping? It is important to make sure community resources such as public parks can be used by residents in order to be the center of community life. Parks encourage safe gathering spaces for old and young alike, physical fitness, access to the outdoors, and beautification. Also, it would be wonderful to see with this revitalization access to services for the homeless population within the area. Revitalization of a community should also include uplifting everyone, including those without.

Vicky, You are right. I've coordinated a meeting with Councilmember Chris Ward at the end of the month. I've also invited the Alliance Residential Company - the developer for the luxury apartment building on Arizona and Howard (below). Please let me know of any specific ideas you have to solve this problem. I'm committed to finding a long-term solution. Thank you. https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2017/jul/18/stringers-luxury-apartments-texas-street-howard-a/

My Child attends theater classes at the NP community center and likes to play at that park. I feel very unsafe to allow my child to play there in the evenings due to the homeless activity and unsafe conditions.

This park and its structures (especially Rec Center and temporary building) are SOOOOO neglected by the City and North Park's community groups and leaders. It is desperately in need of upgrades (including ADA). More activities like concerts, picnics, fairs, community meetings, etc. should be held there to make it more "activated" space, viable and useful to the community. Where is the leadership on doing this? This petition is a step in the right direction; but San Diego's elected officials, administrators, community activists, and residents need to take a hard look at what's going on at this park, with multipronged and long-term solutions backed by some real $, to realize Mayor Faulconer's campaign promises to better the quality of life for ALL of San Diego's neighborhoods.

Our family cannot use this park due to the drug users who live there, violent fights that break out, and urine/feces everywhere. It's a shame that 10-20 criminals are preventing thousands of people from enjoying this public park.

We need humane policies to help the homeless and smart policies to make the park a more welcoming and safe space. I know we can do both--thank you for your help! :)
