Revision to Chester County High School Provision regarding Body Piercing to include Nose Rings
Attention parents/students of Chester County Schools:
I respectfully ask you to assist me in changing the Provision regarding Body Piercing (located in the Student Handbook, p. 38), where it states:
"A student shall not use body piercing to distract unreasonably the attention of other students, cause a safety hazard to themselves, or otherwise to cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school...Currently, visible displays of body piercing are only acceptable with the ear. No piercing of any other body parts can be displayed."
We recommend this be revised as follows" "A student shall not use body piercing to distract unreasonably the attention of other students, cause a safety hazard to themselves, or otherwise to cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school...Currently, visible displays of body piercing are only acceptable with the ear and nose (measuring no more than 1 cm in size). No piercing of any other body parts can be displayed."
Our children are being repressed from displaying their personalities on so many levels, that a small nose piercing is NOT distracting from anyone's education, much less causing a safety hazard to anyone. Other children are allowed to wear gages, large earrings, unnaturally colored hair; and these are not considered to be distracting nor a safety hazard...why should a small stud in the nose causing such an issue as to be punishable by an ISS?
Please sign below so that this can be forwarded to the Board and the Superintendent and Principals of the Chester County School Systems immediately.
Thank you in advance for your support,
