Revise Pratt Senior Painting Curriculum
We, the undersigned rising seniors at Pratt Institute's Fine Arts program, request revisions to the course offering in the upcoming three semesters to allow us to complete our major requirements.
Our first three years at Pratt provided us with the academic and studio training that prepared us for our senior year survey and show. Painting V and VI is two semesters and begins in the fall and finishes the following spring.
One of the most valuable aspects of the course is its in-person interaction with faculty and other students. However, many of us are concerned that the anticipated surge of Covid-19 virus cases in the fall will require another school closure. We want to avoid this scenario and take the course in the spring with the hope that it will be 100% in-person.
We would like the option to begin Painting V in spring 2021 and Painting VI in fall 2021.
Unfortunately, the current curriculum does not allow this. Painting V is not offered in the spring. Therefore, we would have to wait until the fall of 2021 for Painting V and then the spring of 2022 for Painting VI. Delaying completion of our program until the end of the next academic year is a hardship and it is avoidable.
We, therefore, petition the Fine Arts Program to revise the painting curriculum so that Fine Arts seniors have the option to begin their studio course in either the fall or the spring.
We appreciate your willingness to accommodate us during the pandemic.
