We are very against the forced BYOD for education through the school. Technology at this age should be in a controlled environment such as a classroom where the teacher can monitor its use and make sure its not being missused in any way. Young children should not have unsupervised access to the internet. Primary aged children can be exposed to technology at home under the supervision of their parent/gaurdian for educational purposes such as research. Ipads create distraction as children see them as entertainment. They also create unnecessary arguments. They are expensive. Id rather pay a computer fee to the school for them to establish computers within the school. Computers are a much better tool for education of technology over ipad/tablets. They can have better restrictions in place to ensure they are child safe and used only for education within the schools. We had computer labs/ 5 computers in our classroom back when I was in primary school ( public) and that was great for our education. Most people would already have a computer at home. I will definitely not be buying my child an ipad.

As you know, we declined the invite for Charlie to BYOD and we will do the same for Archie. If other schools in the area realise byod isn't best practice then wsps should definately look into this. Show us the evidence that byod is best practice. We would love to see the evidence. All I hear from teachers and parents is that the programme is a burden and creates negative outcomes. Let's look into a different programme please. One that Fairfield, Northcote, Westgarth or ivanhoe use. Thanks

As a family much of the conflict comes from iPAD use.
Yes, we try to set boundaries, but it’s hard when the school is effectively encouraging their use.
Effectively they are just big iPhones, filled with temptation and designed to encourage addictive behaviour.
Laptops make more sense. Less app driven and a built in keyboard for touch typing.
iPads were probably seen as ‘innovative’ 10 years ago. Now we know better and the dangers the present. Let’s act quickly to prevent further harm to our children.

Definitely agree that an extra device is not beneficial for the kids to have at home.
