A Student Centered HCPSS Redistricting Plan
We share Superintendent Foose' concerns relative to the proposed 2013 redistricting plan which moves an estimated 2,800 students within Howard County .
We support the development of a new plan which will limit the number of students impacted as a result of the new school opening in Elkridge while also addressing the overcrowding in specific schools.
We collectively support a "student centric" redistricting plan and request that the Superintendent and the Board of Education:
1. Keep our school communities intact.
2. Stop children from being moved into overcapacity schools creating a "domino effect" of having to move additional students or add capital improvements.
3.Look for opportunities to move children from overcrowded schools directly to under capacity schools if the geographic distance is not incrementally different.
4.Maintain the "feeder systems" within our schools whenever possible so
100% of an elementary school feeds a middle school and in turn that
middle school feeds a high school.
5. Stop redistricting that impacts the same schools repeatedly.
6. Appreciate that families do extensive amounts of research and buy their homes with certain schools in mind for their children.
Please support Superintendent Foose and those members of our Board of Education who are willing to challenge the status quo in an attempt to offer the students of HCPSS a solution centered on their well being.
