Review CPC Employment Committee's Decision

Teachers are our unsung heroes and in today's society they are sometimes ignored and often under compensated. My son was never in Mrs. Botting's class, but I can understand how difficult teaching can be from my experience in the past three years co-oping (at Loma Vista the first two). It is a profession that demands constant attention from all directions. I found that a teacher has to not only tutor her students, but the parents as well.

I'm sorry to say this is 1 1/2 years too late. It is unfortunate that it has come to this. But those who feel that time is not an issue should be respectful of those who do.

You know what they say about people who assume, Steve. Furthermore, I did NOT know that you weren't ever in her class to "experience all she had to offer". Thank you for that information. Please get the facts, then make your stance on the matter. If you have gotten close to certain teachers, I can understand where you are coming from, but try to keep an open mind. If not for yourself, then for the future children at school. If you still feel the same or refuse to look at the orher side, it is my hope that your child will one day come across her as his teacher.

FirstIy I appreciate your balanced tone and willingness to communicate. I agree w/ you if you take my statement to mean their is no altruism at all. I truely hope people where mostly just doing what they thought was best. That doesn't mean they did a good job or came up with the best outcome. I simply feel that there was more personal advocation in the snowball that occurred from last year's class than representation of general membership or reasonable criticism of Christine. 'Grounds for immediate termination' and 'did not push for her contract to be removed' concerns me. All the more reason that a fresh set of eyes needs to sit down with the 'facts' and Christine. I and others do not trust what has occurred and trust is a precious commodity at a coop. Without it you likely have a resentful and combative community. That is not what a playbased, down to earth, preschool should be.

Steve, I respect your comments and passion for the school. You seem like an educated parent. I just feel that it is unfair to state that you do not see altruism in this case when you weren't a part of the class. There were very serious matters, that in any public school, would have grounds for immediate termination. That being said, I certainly did not push or campaign to have her contract removed. I simply voiced my opinions and experiences. Yes, altruism is ideal, but I think half the problem is that it was not a quality that I saw in this particular teacher. In turn, at least for myself, I needed to be an even bigger advocate for my child and for my rights as a parent.

I wasn't trying to be snide nor sarcastic. Simply trying to have a civil conversation umongst the membership. I am not a parent who support this attempt to veto. I have facts, have voiced my concerns to the director and the board. I am not tryng to cause a hostile discussion, simply stating my experience as a cooper and parent. I have also attempted many times to give Christine the benefit of the doubt only to be disappointed once again. At one point my family and I had a mtg where we needed to bring in an attorney. Again, these are my experiences and observations. Both sides of the story need to be heard.

Ria, pushed it over the edge in my separate statement means fast tracked to get the teacher out. That is just simple common sense.

I do believe I saw someone else use " bully" too. I believe people have treated this woman unfairly and by comments I can feel who is with her or against her. Again I was invited to sign this petition and invited to comment.

Again, where most of her statement is concerning me. Read it again, offended that I don't have a right to comment. I was invited in this petition therefore invited to post my opinions and comments. What are your and Kathleen's facts to set up grounds for termination? Mrs. Bottings tract record, her years at the school? What about support and compassion? I have a right to post my feelings and I welcome snide and sarcastic comments. Thank you

I don't recall naming any names or pointing fingers at any single person. I have my facts that you aren't aware of. Maybe you can be a nicer person.

I am curious why the Employment Committe did not review goals directly with Ms. Botting? Wouldn't that be the most logical, straight-to-the-point, and fair way to go about the decision?

Mrs Botting is a warm and caring teacher. She has loved and cared for our children( in my case, grandson) wholeheartedly. She has helped each and every one of them to grow and prepared them with the skills needed to enter kindergarten with confidence.

Let her teach

Maybe some parents should use a class at DVC for respect, etiquette, loyalty, commitment and anti bullying. How about showing some dignity, respect and appreciation for a teacher that has made sacrifices for YOUR children.

I can't personally vouch for her teaching, but I trust the judgement of the 3 other teachers that my children have had and think we need more information!

I'm in shock the way Mrs Botting has been treated. She was made for this job!
