An important part of growing up is learning to manage one’s time (both awake and asleep). With guidance from parents, children learn healthy habits and how to avoid unhealthy ones. Teens are old enough to know how to manage their “body clocks.”

Taxpaying g parent of SES student. This amount of money for a study that a majority of residents opposed is a poor use of funds. There are plenty of other more pressing issues in our school. System.

I am opposed to implementing SSL. It is not right for our town and our schools. The majority of parents, students, and teachers don’t want it. The cost is unreasonable and there are no measurable outcomes of this initiative. What problem are we trying to solve anyway? Kids are tired? I put two student athletes with demanding practice schedules through the school system and yes, they were tired at times. But rather than changing school times may I suggest kids put the phones down, do their homework, and get to bed at a reasonable hour. It makes it easier to get up for the 7:20 first bell at RHS.

Results of the 2016 focus groups: ignored. Results of the 2017 community survey: ignored. Emails to Chairperson Walton (in her own words from the 10/17 vote meeting) from parents begging that if start times be implemented, elementary school NOT be let out first: ignored. Taxpayer concern over costs: ignored. An expensive overreach by a Board increasingly beholden to a vocal, small minority who are trying to implement a solution to a problem we don't have. -- Taxpayer, parent, (RHS, SRMS, RES), voter.

Changing the start time would negatively impact my eldest child's safety (she runs on roads through three seasons) and our childcare (our youngest would be the first to arrive home.)
