Being a parent in Atlanta, I think it is critical to provide housing for all your students. My daughter cannot commute to Tampa and it is not practical for her to live off campus.

There is no way that I'd be willing to commute, driving around Thomas for an hour looking for a parking spot is unproductive.

Forcing your greatest assets, the people who have invested the most in your institute, is asinine and rude. Since I've been here the longest, I deserve to be shown a closing door on many of my opportunities, sources of nutrition, and amenities? Bullsh*t.

how about not admitting too many students and you wouldnt have a housing problem. pushing kids off campus is a hassel and quite frankly theres not enough affordable apts around or houses in safe areas for students to live in.

We can't afford to move off campus. We also as upper classman shouldn't have to be living in the hojo and sharing a tiny space. It's a great atmosphere for freshman but for juniors and seniors it's horrendous. If we want our own single we should have the right to do so! If UT is so worried about the transfer rate they should treat their students better and stop accepting more students than we have the room for. So many of us are from out of state and don't have cars here, and can't afford to live off campus. This is ridiculous

As an alumna of UT, I am disgusted and dismayed but the university's complete disregard of students needs in the name of greedy profit. Here are the facts that concern me the most: priority housing to a group of students that tend to leave after the first year, SAFETY, means of the actual students to find housing, and a lack of infrastructure to accommodate the influx of commuters. The school plans on giving priority housing to freshmen when the statistics show that 25% of those students will leave in the first year alone. Students that have remained on campus until their junior and senior year typically do so because they are not within the means to obtaining an off-campus residence. They may not have the money or a vehicle for transportation or the ability to get enough roommates in order to live off campus. And adding an off-campus residency advisor does not resolve those basic needs. There are many students who cannot get together the required money for a first, last and security deposit or the CREDIT SCORE for an apartment -- don't forget that not all parents are willing or able to co-sign on housing for these students. Then let's discuss my biggest concern of SAFETY. Those who are not able to get a car, because the cost of insurance, payments and gas aren't feasibly, how are they supposed to manage? The residences within walking distance are not even remotely an option-- the amount of robberies/muggings in those areas is not comforting. Bikes are also dangerous, as Tampa was named one of the most dangerous cities for cyclists last year. Buses are unreliable and the bus stops are also not the safest -- a UT professor was robbed at one last year. The infrastructure just doesn't exist in order to help these students. Commuter parking has only gotten worse in the last year, at this rate nearly an entire garage will have to be dedicated to commuters. I never lived a day on campus, but I had a horrible time with parking/ accessibility as a commuter and an influx of

I am honestly glad I transferred from UT when I did. All these recent changes and construction projects have negatively impacted the student body in more ways than one. I hope UT can get their act together, I would like to start recommending the school to those looking at Florida again...
