THE RTO MANDATE IS COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH. I moved to be closer to family and now am being told that choice is no longer valid. My productivity has only gone up since I started working from home full time.

Need more flexibility for those of us with caregiving duties. One size fits all approach really hurts our team morale and retention.

RTO needs to take into account as well that young professionals have been priced out of Ottawa (high rent, impossibility to be able to save enough for a down payment, average price of a home has skyrocketed). There needs to be more flexible arrangements with RTO to allow employees who reside far from Ottawa to be able to work from home more than 2 days a week if they meet objectives and are even more productive. Also - the open workspaces (activity-based workspaces) model of our offices are counter-productive, as shown by several studies (WEF, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Radio-Canada, etc.). No proper consultations have been done, let alone a GBA+ of the RTO on employees.

Although the letter alludes to accessibility needs, I would add that the Department has a duty to accommodate. A discussion on Neurodiversity and the Workplace too place within M-Branch where several employees expressed the barriers and conditions under which they are required to demonstrate/prove a need for accommodation, to reaffirm said need and either fail in securing work from home accommodations, give up on the process entirely because of push back, obstacles and exhaustion, or simply do not attempt to seek accommodation because of stigma, lack of trust and/or the absence of transparency in the process. The Government has also made a commitment to an inclusive and accommodating workplace for Canadians with disabilities. This too, has not received the attention or consideration it rightly deserves in the application of the return to the office TB Directive.
