Return the property to the rightful owners

I wish I could go back and edit my original comment that I posted when I signed this petition. I would like to add my tribal affiliation. I am a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. I live in South Carolina, and I am new to worshiping and celebrating with my brothers and sisters at Keepers of the Word. Being so far from my own tribe, I am forever grateful that the Creator has led me to finding a place where I can share my Indian heritage with members of other tribes, and practice our traditional spiritual ceremonies. This land, these people, are a vital part of South Carolina history and culture, to the Native people in the area, and to the future of our Indian culture. Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children.

I pray that the state will honor this grant, and return the land that was given to them by the colonial government in 1738.

It would be right and healing to honor the intent of the Coachman Grant of 1738.

I have written several times here of the events that Keepers of the Word have performed for Native American month celebrations and St Kateri ( our first Native American saint) events. The drum team are exceptional and Cathy Nelson plays beautiful flute music. Please sign this petition that the State of SC will honor the Coachman Grant and let these people stay on the land that was given to them !!

The State of SC should honor the Coachman Grant and return this land to the Native American community, to whom it rightfully belongs!
