The Regular Army is meltdown. Government austerity has hit the very heart of the military funding cycle. Restitution comes via the Reserve, aka the Territorial Army (TA) but no-one (least of all the Army) understand the real drivers and purpose of the TA soldier/Officer. A 'Reserve' is something a bank keeps for a rainy day, or a football team keep in case of injury to the first XI. The TA was founded under Haldane in the early part of the Century and has never been found wanting in either World War and to this day, supports the Regular Army from the reservoir of talent that volunteers to spend their precious spare time in supporting the Armed Forces. No more. The TA is to be named the Army Reserve, integrated (and lost) into the Regular Army which. despite the public intent, will devour the TA piece by piece eroding the very outputs that made it attractive in the first place. Retain the name, save the game.
