Retain Tazuo Yamaguchi (Taz) as PSI Film Director/Curator
As many people in the world of Poetry Slam know, Tazuo Yamaguchi, effectually known as Taz, has recorded and curated all of the major Poetry Slam Incorporated events from Women of the World, to Iwps to National poetry Slam. Dedicated to his passion to preserve the art and the performances, not many have the wealth of knowledge of the history of events but can provide almost a play by play per poet, per event, per city. Taking on this task with very little funding and very little support staff is an arduous task that would call for someone of deep passion and respect for the art to do without charging prices that go well beyond the means of psi. Recently Taz was involved in a small skirmish that has hurt his reputation in the eyes of some. Since the skirmish, Taz has reconciled with the other party involved in a mutual desire to move on and learn from the scenario. Isn't the world of poetry about healing, moving on and growing? Isn't it about second chances to those who may have made a small mistake and in some cases a major one? We know one thing, given the proper tools and proper timing Taz is able to do an effective job and one I think most of us can appreciate. It is my understanding that his position, held over 10 years is now in jeopardy. This, no matter how you feel about this one situation iis a bit extreme. Taz did not ask me to start this position but after weeks of sitting on this information I feel charged to address it as a friend, a consumer, a poet and a person that stands against injustice. Please remember that this is a very tough job and one that most of us could not easily pull off. Also remember that Taz is an artist first and understands our lives as artist. I will say no more and ask for your trust in my judgment and your faith in Taz and his work and sign this petition today. I hope we can exceed the allotted number of signatures selected. Thank you! Go Taz! Please pass this along.
