I have known Joe for 25 years, as a dancer, teacher and director. He possesses a rare mixture of stage experience, understanding of how to work toward a result of excellence on stage in a strong but calm manner. This is shocking to hear! The Met is making a great mistake and will be unable to replace his historic knowledge of the repertoire with 4 people.
This is simply wrong !

Joe Fritz is the best director a dancer could wish for. A respectful, organized and caring person. I'm putting all my hopes on this petition to keep Joe at the Met. His leadership is priceless.

It would be an absolute disregard and disrespect for the continued success of the Metropolitan Opera to let Joe Fritz go. The dance department is an integral part of the beauty and magic that takes place on the Met Opera stage. To ask Joe Fritz to go is akin to disregarding the beautiful relationships that the opera has, for centuries, brought together. An amazing collaboration between musicians, singers, and dancers. That is the blood of the Met. What sets it apart from so many other institutions is that it demands the highest of each department and provides a level of artistic quality that audiences have come to expect. To let Joe Fritz go is a symbol of the failure to continue to nurture the talent and administration that continue to make the Met a world leader in the arts. The Met would lose an invaluable director and an integral cog in the day-to-day operations of the Met Opera.

Joe Fritz is in the prime of his career as director and administrator, integral to the smooth operation of this company. The offer of early retirement to Joe is as disturbing as it is shocking. He brings a vast storehouse of experience and knowledge of the house, staff, procedures and repertory to this organization which would be impossible to replicate.
