Joe is a stellar instructor! I took master classes from him at NJ Ballet many years ago and he always paid so much attention to me in class. I really appreciated that - it helped so much!

The work environment at the Met is unique in the world of dance. Over the years, Joe has brought together such an incredible group of dancers who I have learned so much from, and am honored to share the stage with. I have witnessed first hand the value he brings to the institution, it's performances, and all of it's artists (dancers, singers, actors, etc).
His untimely departure would be an enormous loss to the dance department, and to the organization as a whole.

Joe makes the Met Ballet department work seamlessly despite yearly cutbacks. He tackles this task with the utmost efficiency yet manages to ensure that every dancer is treated in a respectful and professional manner. I cannot imagine the Metropolitan Opera without Joe Fritz.

Joe Fritz has been a support system and an anchor to every dancer that has passed through the Met Opera doors. His leadership, loyalty and unwavering advocacy for our well being has given the great opportunity to countless dancers to share their gift and talent on the most prestigious stage in New York City. The dancers and artistic staff of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet are all a VITAL part of what keeps this organization at such a high standard year after year. We know our worth to one another and to the future success of opera at the Met. There is no opera without dance and there is no Met Opera Ballet without Joe. He is our leader and he is family. We refuse to lose him with such disregard for all that he has given to this company.

I worked 2 contracts with the Met ballet. Joe's early retirement would be a great loss to the department and to the overall quality of the work being presented at the Met.

In my experience the Met treats its dancers with the upmost respect and professionalism. This is due to the leadership of dedicated administrators like Joe Fritz who has fostered an environment in which the dancers treat each other in the same way. Mr. Fritz's deep knowledge of dance, his experience as a Met dancer and administrator and his commitment to maintain the high standards of choreography and performance make him an important asset to this organization, Experience and integrity should be valued - not dismissed. Mr. Fritz full embodies both of these qualities.

Joe has been fundamental to my career at the met over the years! His professionalism is 2nd to none, in all my experiences as a choreographer in other houses across the world I have never worked with anyone that can do joes job as well as he does. He really is one in a million!!! To lose Joe would be a terrible mistake!!! Please don't let this happen! This makes me so sad that the world of opera is willing to let him go.......

As many have already written, it cannot be overstated that Joe Fritz is essential to the success of the Dance Department at the Metropolitan Opera. Whether he is running a rehearsal, helping to communicate and advocate for dancers, or simply saying hello in the hallways - Joe is always professional, dedicated, and supportive. I cannot imagine the Met without him and hope we will not have to. You would not be able to find a stronger director than Joe Fritz.

Joe has always been a wonderful teacher, leader, and mentor for the dancers. This loss would be detrimental to the department. He is instrumental to maintaining the authenticity and artistic integrity of the Met’s dance performances. He ensures the efficiency of rehearsals and the safety of all productions. His vast knowledge of the inner workings of the opera house is invaluable. This decision would be a horrific blow to an already struggling department. The dance artists and the caliber of performances would surely suffer. Extra dancer at the Met since 2008. AGMA representative 2013.
