Currently, the Northern Lights Public School and the Lakeland Catholic School Division have made the decision to temporarily cancel all basketball games/ tournaments for High School Students.
At the middle school level students are only allowed to practice. Games were not scheduled at all for this age group at the start of the basketball season, and it appears that games are not going to be considered for the middle school kids at all.
As a parent of children in both school divisions, I am very disappointed in the decision. ALL other sports outside of school (hockey, gymnastics, cheerleading, swimming, etc.) are still running at full capacity including spectators. So athletes who have chosen school sports are the only ones missing out and feeling punished. St.Paul school division has not canceled league play. Why has the Lakeland? School sports in the Lakeland even continued throughout the delta wave, why are the games being canceled now?

The momentum we have built makes it clear that the Northern Lights and Lakeland Catholic leadership can no longer ignore our kids. They are punishing these students while every other sport in our region continues without issue. The Northern Lights and Lakeland Catholic school boards are betting that we will just go quiet and accept their pathetic double standards. We are almost at 250 signatures so blast this link out to everyone you know right now and force them to pay attention to our kids.

My son has been waiting all year to play basketball! No other options around us besides school, let them play!
This is spot on! What about those kids who’s families can’t afford to put their children into organized sports etc. out side of what the school offered? So unfair!
If after school sports can complete with other places so should schools otherwise it doesn’t make sense. and we have rapid tests now
The AHS guidelines are currently allowing kids sports. It is unacceptable to make these decisions for the families. Let them decide for themselves if they wish to participate.
As a student who plays a school sport (basketball) in the Lakeland. Basketball is one of the things I look forward to going to school each year for. Without school sports I believe our mental health as teenagers are getting worse.
The kids need this!
Stop the abuse of our children in the schools! Teachers are supposed to be setting our kids up for a bright future and all that’s being taught in the last 2 years is fear and lies! Give them their best chance at a normal life. Stop this insanity and give them their sports back.
