Currently, the Northern Lights Public
School and the Lakeland Catholic School Division have made the decision
to temporarily cancel all basketball games/ tournaments for High
School Students.
At the
middle school level students are only allowed to practice. Games
were not scheduled at all for this age group at the start of the
basketball season, and it appears that games are not going to be considered for the middle school kids at all.
As a parent
of children in both school divisions, I am very disappointed in the
decision. ALL other sports outside of school (hockey, gymnastics, cheerleading,
swimming, etc.) are still running at full capacity including spectators. So athletes
who have chosen school sports are the only ones missing out and feeling punished.
St.Paul school division has not canceled league play. Why has the Lakeland? School sports in the Lakeland even continued throughout
the delta wave, why are the games being canceled now?
Please sign this petition to let the Lakeland
School Divisions know how important it is to our kids to resume school
basketball games/tournaments out of fairness: most importantly for
their developmental and mental health.
My boys are in Glendon school and they don’t even play sports in the northern lights school division. We play teams in the St. Paul division. We’ve missed our whole season so far because of this mindless rule about no games. Ridiculous. Time to get back to normal
