We, the undersigned, ask the town of Portugal Cove - St. Philip's to restrict the use of fireworks in our town.

We support the public display of fireworks but would like the town of Portugal Cove - St. Philip's to prohibit the use of fireworks by the general public.

The loud noises and flashing lights from fireworks terrorize pets, livestock and wildlife.

It also causes great distress to those suffering from anxiety disorders and PTSD. Firework "smoke" can wreak havoc on those with asthma and breathing difficulties.

Fireworks also contaminate the air and water. The colorful explosives used to celebrate special occasions pose serious environmental and health dangers from heavy metals (Such as aluminum, arsenic, lead and more).

Fireworks are not just pretty lights, they are very dangerous and can cause property damage, injuries and fires.

For the protection of all vulnerable groups in our town, we feel that the residential use of fireworks is unacceptable and we respectfully ask that their use be restricted to official displays and to those who carry a pyrotechnics license.
