Restore the Asling’s Beach Rock Pool for Our Community
We, the undersigned members of the Eden community and supporters of our coastline, are calling on Bega Valley Shire Council to review and invest in the restoration of the Asling’s Beach rock pool.
The Asling’s Beach rock pool is one of Eden’s most beautiful natural landmarks and a place of deep local significance. Many residents grew up swimming here - learning how to safely manage the ocean in a protected, natural environment. For generations, it has been a space for families, children, and visitors to connect with the coastline.
By NSW standards, this rock pool is truly special. While Australia is fortunate to have many natural ocean pools, few are as striking or unique as this one. Its value extends beyond recreation - marine biology students already travel to Eden to study our rock pools, highlighting their ecological and educational importance.
Over time, however, the Asling’s Beach rock pool has not been adequately maintained and is now largely filled with sand, making it difficult and at times unsafe to use. This represents a missed opportunity for safe swimming, community wellbeing, tourism, and environmental education.
Local residents contribute significantly through council rates and care deeply about how those funds are reinvested into shared community assets. Many believe that maintaining and restoring key coastal infrastructure - particularly natural landmarks like the Asling’s Beach rock pool - should be a priority investment that benefits locals and visitors alike.
Across NSW - particularly in coastal councils such as Sydney - ocean and beach pools are actively maintained as essential community assets. With thoughtful, low-impact intervention, the Asling’s Beach rock pool could once again be safely and sustainably enjoyed.
We respectfully ask Bega Valley Shire Council to:
- Undertake a formal assessment of the current condition of the Asling’s Beach rock pool
- Explore restoration options such as dredging, sensitive structural works, or long-term sand management
- Recognise the rock pool as a valued community, environmental, and cultural asset
This petition is not about over-development or altering the natural beauty of Eden. It is about caring for what we already have, recognising the contribution of local ratepayers, and ensuring future generations can enjoy this special place as so many before them have.
We ask Council to work with the community to help restore the Asling’s Beach rock pool for safe, sustainable use.
