LEAP currently receives approximately half of its funding from the State of Connecticut. The Governor’s current budget proposal for 2013-14 COMPLETELY ELIMINATES LEAP’S FUNDING. Not receiving these funds will significantly impact the services for children that LEAP is able to provide. Not only will hundreds of children cease to receive critical afterschool and summer programs, but dozens of jobs will be lost.
For 21 years, LEAP has been a staple in the New Haven community with a proven track record of success. Please sign this petition and urge Governor Malloy to put LEAP back into the state budget at the full amount and explore other avenues for reducing the budget shortfall -- which must include conversations about generating revenue, not just cutting critical educational and social service programs.
NOT RECEIVING THIS FUNDING WILL EFFECTIVELY END LEAP AS WE KNOW IT. Don't let that happen. Let the Governor and state legislators know how vital LEAP is to the communities in New Haven and to the State of Connecticut. Thank you!
We just hit 250 signatures. Post this link to your Facebook page right now and email your state representative to demand they restore LEAP funding.

LEAP kept me off the streets when I was a kid. This program actually matters to the city. Don't cut it.

We need these programs more than ever. Taking this away hurts the city and the people who live here everyday.

Ridiculous to cut funding for kids. Find the money somewhere else. Malloy needs to rethink this asap.
