I strongly support the proposed emergency wolf protection measures (i.e., that is the closing of the Wolf Townships/Stampede Trail area to hunting and trapping east of the Denali National Park boundaries. The research, data and evidence is overwhelming that the wolves winter in this area and that the taking of any one of these wolves disrupts the enitre pack and threatens their survival. The 'interests' of a select few hunters/trappers should not rank above the millions of tourism dollars and the fulfilment of lifelong dreams (to see a wild wolf) for many. Alaska and the BOG should recognize this. The closing of this very small, but hugely important area, may mean hunters and trappers need to relocate their traplines/camps but there is enough land in Alaska to go around. I urge the BOG to work with Denali officials in supporting the mission of the statement of Park....to 'protect and preserve for future generations' and by doing so create a healthier ecosystem, one that supports much wildlife, and one that can offer all of us much more in the long run.
