As a former Alaskan resident and current student of Biology the salughter of wolves is appauling. I have always felt Alaska was doing much better then states like Idaho. Unfortunately this belief is beocming false as Alaska ramps up is wolf "saughter" plan. These sentinent creatures are an apex predator and key stone species that keep entire eco system in balance. Looseing them is not only a travesty but a loss of natural capital. Think of it this way deer populations will over graze deleting young and new forrest growth, they will pass thier carry capacity casuing spread of disease among deer populations and other speicies. Because of this over grazing river banks will collapse placeing more pressure on popular fishieries with in the state causing further decline in salmon and fish like arctic grayling. A shortage of fish will impact the sports and commericial industries as well as affect other wild life such as bald eagles, sea otters, seals and sea lions to name a few. It triggers what biologist refer to as a trophic cascade or in other words "Stuff rolls down hill". Remember wolves are the top of the hill! Human hunters cannot replace this keystone species as proven by the reintriduction of wolves in Yellow Stone and eco system collapse across north America as a result of wolf killing and that of other key stone species. Humans kill the top in a species such as deer and take away thier best genes causing further collapse within the population of the speicies. Wolves pray on the weak and while they may kill a faun they also cull herds killing the weak and infirm. They may herds healthier, improve eco systems and maintain balance. As a Christian I would say it is for us to be "stewards not destroyers". What God has put in place let no man tear asunder! I hope you will reconsider the validated science on this topic over the hype and pressure from sports industries and hunters.
