With the recent announcements of cuts and program changes in Portland Public Schools we call for priorities that value our special needs children. We the undersigned members of the PPS community write to request the restoration of our Special Education Motor Team. The lay-offs of our Adaptive Physical Education (APE) teachers do an enormous disservice to our most vulnerable, highest-need students. The valuable work that these teachers do is crucial to the development of our special needs students and has a fundamental, life-long impact on children with disabilities. Without their valuable work, children with developmental delays will suffer further and more permanent setbacks that will affect their entire lives. These few positions are indispensable to our schools! Restore our Special Education Motor Team now!
