Dear Dr. Vargas and Rochester City School District Board of Education Commissioners,
We have been privileged to work under the leadership of Miriam Ehtesham-Cating for
the past several years. As a career teacher of English Language Learners, a former RCSD
lead teacher-mentor and the former director of the Nazareth College TESOL program,
Miriam has consistently promoted a culture of excellence both in our school district and
within the wider community. In her work, Miriam has demonstrated to each of us her
ability to observe, coach and clearly articulate to teachers of English Language Learners
how to fully promote the linguistic and academic potential of our students. In addition
to her keen understanding of the needs and unique challenges of English learners,
Miriam's knowledge of the Common Core Standards-based reform movement has guided
us toward working collaboratively to close the achievement gap of English Language
Learners from a variety of backgrounds.
In short, we consider Miriam to be an incredible leader and advocate both for our
students and for our important work, and we urge each of you to reconsider the value of
her administrative leadership to the Rochester City School District. We, the undersigned,
both respectfully request and strongly support Miriam's restoration to a position of academic leadership in the Rochester City School District.
