The facilities board confirmed they are swapping the shower heads back to the previous flow rate. It took a long time to get them to acknowledge the drop in quality but it is finally over. Thank you for staying with me until we got this fixed.

The mission of MAC Facilities is to give members a clubhouse, amenities and equipment that are safe, comfortable, sustainable, attractive, and world-class.
The Members who have signed this petition feel the replacement of shower heads, while fulfilling the mission of sustainability, have compromised the comfort and usability of showers to the extent they have become insufficient in providing the service they are supposed to deliver. The Portland Water Bureau states the flow of shower heads should be limited to 2.5 gallons per minute. The old shower heads flowed at 2.0 gallons per minute. The new shower heads flow at 1.5 gallons per minute. We feel the 2.0 gallons per minute shower heads delivered an effective balance between sustainability, regulation, and member experience.
The Members request the facilities committee and board restore the shower heads to their previous flow rates.

I understand the need to watch expenses. However, at $300/month, MAC is 10x 24 Hour Fitness. I expect a better member experience than that. There are better ways to save money. This is an opportunity for the management, committee and Board to show that they are listening to the members.
We've got the same issue in the women's area. The shower heads spew water out all sides (sometimes even reaching up hanging items), but don't go directly down. It takes MUCH longer to shower.
The stated goal of Premier Member Experience was completely ignored with this change. Cost savings and sustainability were to be balanced with enhanced member experience, not promoted at the expense of member experience.
I work in the plumbing business. I can tell you none of our customers like low flow heads. There are other areas for water conservation that should be looked at if that is the primary objective.
In my 50+ years as a MAC member, I have seen many changes and most were improvements. The shower heads do not serve the purpose they are intended for -- rinse soap out off body and out of hair.
I get the concept, but I think it's actually NOT penciling as members are spending more time in the showers due to the low pressure...would be great to find a compromise!
I get the concept, but it truly does take extra time to shower, so in the end, I feel like it's not penciling. Let's find a happy medium...what do you say?

Just because less water is flowing from the shower heads doesn’t mean we are using less water and energy overall. You have to let the water run longer to balance the temperature, you have to shower longer to get the soap off, and you have to run the water hotter just to stay warm!
