Restore Funding for Tourette Syndrome in PA State Budget

As the mother of an 8 yr old with TS, I hope that this funding will be restored to help those who cannot help themselves.

As an individual with TS and several of its other co-occurring conditions, having been diagnosed in 1990 at age 11, nearing 35 years of age, TS being all I've ever known, I have struggled life long not only with friends and family but also those of society. It is a struggle to be misunderstood in today's society. There is not, nor has there ever been enough being done for Tourettes Syndrome individuals or our families to help us to gain and retain a better quality of health and life. There is not enough awareness created and more research is needed to help these factors. Having such an organization such as the Pennsylvania Tourettes Syndrome Alliance to help individuals like us and our families is most beneficial not only for our health and better quality of life, adults and children alike, is so much of a blessing for not just those that this organization helps and supports, however, also, those who are in need of more aid, help and support, understanding, acceptance... but most of all, equality in today's society. Tourettes Syndrome is so very much too often utilized in joking and derogatory referencing and that is becoming more and more evident every day. Having the funding cut from the Pennsylvania state budget is not only detrimental to our health and quality of life, as well as our family's ability to help us in those factors, but also the bigger aspect of everything... the awareness, the knowledge, the acceptance and equality and equal opportunity for each and every individual that is in need of those kind of supporting system and organization. I will boldly state that, again, much too often the funding for the PATSA, Inc., or the funding for TS research as a whole cut from the state budget is more-so a joke that Tourettes Syndrome is made out to be. Tourettes Syndrome is NOT any laughing matter and is so unbelievably disregarded on so many levels and in so many, many ways.
