ACM states that it will be open, then closes basic metadata searches behind a paywall. This appears to me to be immoral behavior, but perhaps is just a sign of the times, where the pursuit of profits trumps pursuit of knowledge.

ACM needs to serve the profession. Losing the metrics just means we go elsewhere—like Google Scholar—and ACM continues to lose relevance. It already struggles to attract young professionals.

We are shocked by the terrible blow that ACM has inflicted on its volunters, including members, authors, reviewers, and editors.
