The death penalty isn't a act of vengeance but rather an act of protection to the people. I find that morality does not entwine with justice for one cannot make an omelette without cracking eggs. Therefore to serve the omelette of justice, one must atone for his sins. Death is said to be the thing that the majority of humanity fears most (right after public speaking) so the death penalty will obviously deter people from crime and as Benjamin Franklin once said “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” According to the studies, every inmate put to death can and will save anywhere between three and eighteen lives. The death penalty should be able to scare most sane citizens out of committing crimes and could perhaps provide closure to the victims.
