Recently I read a status on FaceBook concerning a neglected veterans cemetery in my local town/county. I cannot even fathom why a town, county or councilman would decline such an offer, or make a "practice" of declining such an offer. Showing such disrespect for our veterans and wasting our tax money on "job bids" who are obviously not doing what they're paid to be doing. " Excuse me for this rant but i think other residents of Montgomery county have a right to know... The Michael cemetery is a small plot across from my place. The graves of Revolutionary War and The War of 1812 veterans are here. Last year the cemetery was not being maintained and my oldest son Trevor said Dad that's sad those soldiers deserve better than that. I was convicted by my 10 year olds comments and decided we would mow the place and keep it up. I called the Union Township Trustee and asked if they would provide weed killer as the fence is pretty hard on my trimmer. I was told I would be contacted later. I received no call back so I stopped in the office a couple weeks later. I was told my son and I cannot mow the cemetery. I was trespassing and if I wanted to mow it I would have to bid on all the cemetery's in Union Township. Well I can't do that but what has our government came too? A local citizen wants to give back for the price of weed killer and is told he can't. How do I raise a child and teach giving back when the local townships operate like this. I also contacted the Journal Review last year to see if they wanted to do a story and received no call back. I left it alone since then but driving past the cemetery today just made me depressed. This year the place has still not been maintained to a level that the fallen deserved!" Please sign our petition to end the disrespect. Our veterans deserve so much more. Councilman, did our veterans tell you they wouldn't fight for our country until there was a job bid?
