All great cities must have a great symphony. It's part of what the city sells to investors as representative of the culture and social structure. We must treat our artists with respect if we're going to maintain the image we want to portray.

I never fully appreciated the simple joy of listening to live music until I moved to a place where there was only the never changing tedium of recorded music no matter how excellent the performance.

Canned music is for disco clubs and elevators. Please use live musicians for all performances at the Tobin Center.

If you can't produce a ballet with live music, you shouldn't do it at all.

AFM Local 23, along with the Symphony musicians and union locals affiliated with the San Antonio AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, will be coordinating informational picketing at next weekend's Tobin Center (115 Auditorium Circle San Antonio, TX 78205) performances: Fri 2/17 evening, Sat 2/18 afternoon and evening, Sunday 2/19 afternoon. Evenings we gather at 6:30, afternoons at 1:00. No pitchforks and torches, no obstruction, yes leaflets and solidarity. No rsvp necessary, but feel free to contact Musicians' Society of San Antonio: [email protected] or (210)227-3582 (our office directly above Alamo Music Center downtown, is open Mon 9a-1p, Weds/Fri 1-5p).

Don't scale back the season or otherwise reduce "costs", increase the effort to recruit donors and corporate sponsors. Pay your musicians or you will lose them.

A city as nice as San Antonio should have a full time orchestra. The arts must be maintained above sports!

Live music has been a part of our country's history as Presidents and States rights. Let's sign an executive order instead of a petition.

At this time, more than ever, live musicians give a true, real and high-style experience for your patrons. Please do not minimize their experience with canned music.

There is no replacement for the sound of live instruments, nor does canned music have the flexibility or heart required for true artistic expression. Musicians, not machines.
