This government deems it unacceptable and offensive to shorten a Pakistani person to "Paki" the reason given is that in the past they say they were chased down the street by people shouting Paki's. because they take offense our government make it a prohibited word in Britain. Every other country has shortened names, like Aussies or jocks or taffies. Liverpool folk become scouse and the good people of Birmingham are brummies. and as a last example, the people of Cornwall refer to visitors as " Grockles".
Now during the 1970's whilst i was serving in Northern Ireland during the troubles, the IRA coined a phrase "BRIT" when we were attacked during patrol's they would be shouting "kill the brits" or get the Brits back to England, and worst of all, whilst picking up what was left of three fellow soldier's after a bomb had gone off, men women and children stood by chanting " three more good brits" now every time I hear newscasters or politicians, or media people including journalists, referring to British people as "Brits" it takes me back to those days in Ireland. Now if we have to be sensitive to the Pakistani's, surely the same consideration should be given to we the British.
Please sign this petition, and force the Government to discuss this in Parliment, and give us the same respect as other Countries.
many thanks
